A Russian born famous ballet dancer, Anna Pavlova danced to her own style. Many would have considered this style bad workmanship as she danced with her knees bent and extremities out of strict typical ballet form. But, she was a beautiful dancer... and danced "Romantic Ballet" as some have referred to her style.

I absolutely love this picture of Anna Pavlova. It shows the beauty and grace in her extremities.
She was born in 1981 and technically started her Ballet Dancing career at the age of 10 when she was accepted into the Imperial Ballet School, after having been denied admission earlier because of her weak appearance. She trained for many years as a classical ballerina and finally graduated in 1899 at the age of 18. Her most famous performance and what she would later known for was The Dying Swan. (See Video)
Her feet and frame were so weak and frail she manufactured a pointe shoe that took the pressure off of her own body and feet in some ways by putting a square piece of weight at the tip. It is also rumored that activists against ballet had gathered in a theater where Anna Pavlova was to be performing and they had planned to throw eggs at her, but when they saw her they refrained and just watched her ethereal performance. She captured the true beauty and essence of ballet in its frail form. She went on to inspire so many in ballet. She
